I think hummingbird's are so pretty. Next spring I'm going to buy another feeder (mine broke) and put it outside the kitchen window so I can watch them again. Beautiful pics.

Nice concept. You could silicone some rocks to the ramp for traction as well.

What's the temp of the basking area (is the bulb a combo UVB light?)?

Is it possible to put something around the tank on that end? Assuming the temp is OK, they may feel exposed and vulnerable having so much open space to negotiate in order to get to bask.

The turtles are all going up there to bask now. I guess they just needed some time. The temp on the dock is about 90. We put a uvb reptisun light in the hood light.

The UVB light should be over the basking area as much as possible for them to get maximum benefit from it . The water will filter out some of the UVB rays. I can't remember if you said so or not, but if there's a covering over the tube (plastic, glass) it should be taken off as well.

Nothing is covering the light. UVA/UVB light at that spectrum can't penetrate much of anything, even a few inches of water. I am happy to say that the turts have gotten use to the new dock now. It's been awhile since I posted, I've been a little busy on some things..
I like the idea that Marisa had on putting silicone down and putting some small rock's on the dock. I hope to do this, I am off work for four days, so I should have plenty of time to do it! Thanks for the post's

'Yeah some of them are feeder guppies. I just hope they eat them and not my albino cory and our other fish. But they probably will end up eating some of the other ones.

That dock looks like a cool idea. Have they used it yhet? I would think that the light bulb was too close for comfort.

im getting my 75 gallon tank, a custom built basking spot just like your guy's built but instead of wood it will be built of glass. The only thing he is not doing or we cant figure out is how to get a ramp to come from the water to the basking area. we are useing a sheet of glass to cover the half the top of the tank. and 12 inch walls of glass completely surroung the tank so they cant get out(water will be filled to top). So im wondering what u guys used here for your ramp. i see the bathtub slip rubber on there which is a good idea but what is the actual ramp made of. or any ideas would be awsome

To me, it looks like a plastic lid from a storage container. For traction, I think reptile/cage carpet would work as well.

If you will be covering the tank with a sheet of glass, how will UV lighting penetrate? And if the water will be filled to the top, how will you keep them from escaping?

A glass enclosure heats up very quickly; it can become dangerously hot in very little time and you are just asking for trouble if you do that, imo.

From what I understand, its an above tank basking area. Glass as the base and glass walls/fence surrounding area to prevent escape. I'm still not sure whats the best way to attach the ramp to the basking area.

Hi, there are alot of different ways you could attach the ramp, I ended up just cutting two peices of wood on a 45 degree angle and screwing them to the base, then for the ramp itself, like steve said, it is a cover to plastic storage box. Be sure to post some pics of your ramp, it sounds interesting. Good luck
