We are very sad to have to part with our 4 year old RES, Scotch. Long story, but basically we feel like the quality of the habitat and life our turtle has is not what it should be.... SO, we'd like him to be adopted by a responsible owner. It would be ideal is that person were sort of close to NYC, but we could possibly travel for the right adoptive family. Please email me at dhortsch@hotmail.com or post if you are interested or have suggestions. thanks very much. :( [/b]

You don't think you could upgrade his habitat to one he'd be happier in? If you can't find someone here, you could try a turtle re-homing agency such as www.turtlehomes.org or the Turtle Rescue of Long Island http://turtlerescues.com

Hi Ellman, You may think I'm crazy, but I would be willing to go to Maryland. Can you send me an email to dhortsch@hotmail.com or send me your email and maybe we can discuss further? Best, Diana

I think your best bet is to take your turtle to a turtle rescue. There you know he will be well taken care of, he will be with people that know what a reptile needs and he wont be killed.

Giving your turtle to a stranger just doesnt seem like a good idea, at least to me. Its not wise to give precious things to people you dont know, thats just my opinion for what its worth. Also its not a good idea to travel to some unknown persons house on the internet. Anyone can see your ad on here and tell you to come on over.

Whoever reads this can tell you they want the turtle but possibly wont give it a good home and theres no way for you to be certain they will. At least at a turtle rescue, your turtle will be safe.

His thought is slow but always kind;
He holds us all within his mind."

damn, i am surprised you would travel here, i have 2 myself, both in a 50 gallon tank, i would be very honored to have him, but i'de be going way out of my league, i'm only 13! My dad would kill me, i would very much recommend a herp vet, go there and ask if he wants him, some herp verts will get acrylic tanks and stick em in the wall so when people come in. What a sight! I'm very sorry, but i would just be getting in way to deep. Best wishes.

HI Ellman-- Well, you gave me a good laugh! I guess the internet puts years and experience on you. I imagined you as at least 35-- possibly a construction worker or maybe an archeology professor! I appreciate your answer and I'll try your suggestion of a herp vet (and the turtle rescue idea too). Thanks so much and I hope you enjoy your teenage years! From my poor memory, they sort of were a drag, but it definitely gets better. :wink:

Dhortsch -you can take your turtle to the bronx zoo or the NY aquarium! Maybe they will be willing to give your turtle's a better home. :D

Wow! i never thought of that, think of all the room your turtle will get, and all that food, yummm, wish that was the life i had, no worries, all the food you can eat, and a giant amount of space.
