Habitat - Indoor :: Blue Green Algae

My tanks substrate is fast becoming invaded by this Cyanbacteria. Just thought I'd post some pics up of what it looks like, and a link to a helpful article. I've traced the cause to very low nitrates <5ppm all the time, and a lot of light. I have a 36" 36watt T-5 Coralife 10,000K light on my tank.

I'm not going to dose anything that raises my nitrates, nor do a black out. I've successfully gotten rid of it before by removing the infected sand, and doing a water change. This time I'm going to do that same thing, except add an airstone in as well.

So here's my tank with Blue Green Algae overrunning its substrate.

And it growing on one of my plants. It's weird how it traps airbubbles.


I'll be scrubbing that plant and giving it a high concentration vinegar soak.
