I've seen people do a black and white tank and it looks amazing. A little more money but a great look.

I got a 50 lb bag for 2.91 at Lowes today and rinsed the sand for about ten minutes..you can see pics in the photo gallery but it is still a little cloudy.

My turtle has been eating the sand off and on since I put it in an hour ago...is this going to be a problem?

Also, how often do you guys replace it?

Lastly, not all Walmarts carry the crayola play sand...only the n2m stores do, and you can go to their site and see if which local stores are n2m partners.

If the turtle eats the sand to the point where he can't pass it, then it would be a serious problem. Use your judgment if you think the turtle is eating too much of it.

I haven't seem them eat it today...and I did feed them and gave them cuttlebone last night and will do so in a little bit, so I think they're pretty much done with that. If they are still eating it today I think I might take it out.

I didn't wash my sand before putting it in. I didn't know! :(

what will happen? :(

Also, I need more sand. if I don't care how it looks can I mix brands? I have pet store Riversand right now, but it was $20 a bag for a 10lb bag. I want to get something cheaper, can I add the cheaper stuff in on top of the other stuff?

its been two days and water is still cloudy...

Cleaning the sand is what keeps it from making your water cloudy. Cleaning it out also allows you to remove any large pieces that don't belong (large meaning anything larger than sand). You can add a different kind of sand if you want, it doesn't matter. Hardware stores sell them a lot cheaper, and bigger, than pet stores.

You should empty out your tank, clean the sand you have and the new sand then fill it back up. It sounds like a lot of work, but it will allow you to use your tank and your filters sooner.

Okay thanks!

I will clean it tonight.

Buying more sand from Wal-mart next week. Will any kind of sand do, like any fine grain sand, or are certain kinds bad??

As far as I know, all of them are good. Just get the fine grade. When you clean it, you can sift through it and pull out any big chunks that accidentally got in there.
