sorry second pic is blurry.

is there anyway I can get a picture of the top of this? you said you put the tubing into the piece that hangs over the side of the tank but on my XP4 the tubing and the piece are the same size so I'm lost as to how you did this

I'm sorry I no longer have that filter setup like that, so I'm unable to get you a picture. But it was a ghetto rig. I just fit a size to big of tubing in there, and then wrapped a couple wraps of duct tape over it to make sure it didn't come out. The piece I stuck the tubing into was the little grey over the tank piece Rena supplies you with.

Oh, and feel free to PM me with questions if you need a more immediate response to sand questions. I don't frequent this board as much, but I get my email on my phone and get notifications of new PM's. I will reply almost immediately.

Sand shouldn't affect their eyes at all. I prefer to put the sand in first, then water. But it doesn't matter either way really, I notice slightly less clouding with sand in first.

Hey - what is you guys' sand depth? I'd like to put some sand in my tank but I'm not sure how deep to make it.

I have a 55 gallon tank and had planned on making my sand depth about 1-1/2 inches deep. I think my math came up at about 30lbs of sand to do this. I had 20lbs bags so I decided to go with 40 and have it around 2 inches. after putting in one bag though I was satisfied with where my sand level was.

I'd keep in mind that the depth doesn't really matter to your turtle. Donnie likes to dig in one of his corners and keep it bare, and would do that no mater how much sand was in there. The depth is really up to what you think looks best. At that point its just for visual appeal, which is why Donatello got purple sand to match his name sake. =D

hah - cute. I have a 75 gallon tank. I just bought a 50lb bag from home depot- I have a feeling I'll be fine with that much. I'll see after I wash it and put it in the tank.

I'd love to see your purple sand!

I'd just like to say the following: WASH YOU SAND!!! until you pretty much run out of water. haha. I washed mine a lot... but clearly not close to enough. I made a huuge mess of my tank. After a lot of suffering, it is finally clearing up after about a week. Wash your sand.... a lot!

t43m4n - your turtle needs more water, id say get a turtle dock and raise the water level

So I'm in charge of redoing one of my teacher's fish tanks. If i treat the sand the day before can I still put it in the tank dry or do I have to red-wet it?

turtie-Sand does not have to be kiln dried.

t43m4n- I suggest you remove the small rocks in your tank. Your large turtle can swallow them and die.

sfmmfreak- Yes, if by treat you mean wash. You can put the sand into the tank dry, but I doubt that the sand will dry out in a couple days.

Hope it helps.
