Feeding and Nutrition

So I have yet to find a recent poll of the brand / type of foods the community feeds their turtles. This thread can also be a discussion on what brand / type of food is the best (nutrition wise) and which kind / type their turtle finds the most appetizing. If you use more than one (in a rotational way for variety), feel free to vote more than once, or vote for the more commonly used kind / type of food. (5 vote limit)

Right now, I have a LARGE variety of foods. I have Fluker's Buffet Blend, Hikari Turtle Sticks, Reptomin Red Pellets, Reptomin Baby Sticks, Zoo Med Growth Formula, and of course some Zoo Med Dried Krill. My turtle loves the Reptomin Red Pellets with the added enriched krill, but we use this vary scarcely with the high protein and fat content. We primarily use the Reptomin Baby Sticks, and the Fluker's Buffet Blend (good bit of calcium).

I like to mix Reptomin and Mazuri. My turtle seems to like both equally. He also has anacharis growing in his tank, and a fresh leaf of green leaf lettuce daily

Yeah we typically used reptomin and decided there wasn't enough calcium in it. We got this kind:

4% calcium with bugs and worms in it? Hell yeah!

Seems like too much protein for Sheldon. I basically just bought the 2 most highly recomended pellets from the feeding and nutrition page, and mixed them together

I feed two reptomin pellets in the morning and a vegetable (3 or 4 bites) at night.
I have tried carrot, broccoli, and squash so far.

@camper- well changs still a hatchling, and once a week its veggies, and the next day is 1 large earthworm. So he's pretty well rounded!

@turtlenana - how big is your slider? depending on the size, that may not be enough for him / her. Also try different lettuces. Romaine, mustards, kale, red leaf lettuce. Experiment, see his / her likes and dislikes and offer greens more than the starchier veggies.

@turtlenana- Broccoli is in the "not recommended" section of the feeding and nutrition section. Red and green leaf lettuce are a hit with my turtle

@chang- I wish I could have seen Sheldon as a hatchling, they are so cute when they're little

I feed Reptomin. I would also feed Mazuri, but I can't find it in any of my local pet stores. I use the Reptomin as a supplement to the turtle jello shots. I also sprinkle them on top of the jello shots as they are setting up.

I had to order the Mazuri online, I mix it up with the reptomin.

ChangTang, my turtle is 1 1/4 inches long. i have tried to go by the size of his head. How much would be correct for him?

Happy camper, apparently i got my lists crossed up. i will stop the broccoli and start with the greens.

Oh, i didn't expect your turtle to be that small. And yes, give as much food as would fit in his head if it were hollow because thats the size of his/her stomach.
