Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

I found my baby res turtle that has been missing for three days now buried two inches under the soft soil next to the pond. Why did it do this? They are new and are in a new enclosure but I don't see why they'd both bury themselves with a pond right next to them. The pond is heated and it is also Southern California so the weather is fine. Maybe they just like to dig??

Hatchlings are pretty sensitive to temperatures. Did you take any readings?
