LOL how little is that guy? I've got a new baby now and would love to fill his tank all the way up. Although I highly doubt he could handle it.
I build acrylic ATBAs.

Why wouldn't the baby turtle be able to handle a tank full of water?

I love the LED lights. They are bright, emit very little heat, and use much less electricity.

i'm thinking of a grass mat as a ramp for my turt.

is this okay?

will it hurt my dumbork in any way?

the material is made from hard plastic, so there's no chance that he will tear it.

thanks!

Hi. The grass area looks perfect for a ramp. It shouldn't hurt the turtle, since it doesn't look like it has anything dangerous. Whats your actual basking place going to be like?

Good Luck,

Michealg is correct. A baby aquatic turtle can handle a tank that is filled to the top. They live in ponds, lakes and rivers. I assure you, those are over a foot deep. Just give them plenty of areas to rest as hatchings aren't quite as strong as a juvenile or adult. But slider turtles are more at home in water than on land. They are designed naturally to swim in the water. Look at the smoothness (it should be smooth) and the curvature of the shell, it is shaped like a wing. Their webbed feet are paddles and are very strong, these features gives them excellent swimming capabilities. And they act alot like a submarine. Take in air to float and release air as needed to stay submerged below the water surface. Plus they can go several minutes without coming to the surface to breath (adults). I love watching my turtle swim, it is amazing how he can move so effortlessly thru the water.

Maybe i missed it, but do any if you guys have an above the tank basking area you can post pix of for a LARGE turt. ?? Im working on Tobi's... its almost there, but im not sure what to lay over the eggcrate bottom of the basking area. Tried tile, but it heats up FAST and toooo HOT!!
Any suggestions of a flat non-melting or heat resistant bottom that i can lay down over the egg crate so she will be comfortable and not too hot?
Btw, tobi is very heavy and a foot long and about 9 inches wide. I remember Sheba was HUGE.... what does she use?
Someone please help. TIA!!!

Steve, I still have 2. One uvb coil and 1 zoomed 50watt heat bulb. That sucker gets hot. And that's almost a foot away.
I've pulled it back even further so the tile doesn't fry but now our bigger problem is she won't go up the ramp :( Same degree angle as her old ramp/basking area. But its the egg crate light stuff. Hubby put plastic pipe on its edges this evening so that the dipping into the water wouldn't be too bad since she's so heavy, but she still won't get on it :(
I wonder how long to wait before I try something else? Help...lol
