Habitat - Indoor :: media for xp3

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

So I've had an extremely bad day. I decided to clean the turtle tank, and in the process the secure handle on the fluval 304 filter broke. So it won't seal. So I've decided to get the xp3, it's what I wanted anyway. My question is what kind of media should I get to put in it? Right now I am using peat moss, carbon, and bio max ceramic rings.

I know that I read something recently about different media, but for the life of me I can't find it. So, if someone would even link me to that, it would be great.

The media you need should come with the filter (with the exception of the biomedia, but check just to make sure). If you have to buy the biomedia, Rena sells ceramic rings and stars (I have both). But you probably could just use the biomax in it and add the rings or stars only if you need more biomedia.

Where are you ordering/getting it from?

In my XP3 I have:

Bottom Container from bottom to top:
2 Filstar coarse foam pads 30 pores per inch
2 Filstar fine foam pads 20 pores per inch

Middle Container:
2 Filstar activated carbon pouches (number of carbon pouches depends on tank size. I have a 90 gallon which requires 2 pouches)

Top Container from bottom to top:
1 Box of Filstar Ceramic Rings and 1 box of Filstar Bio-Chem stars
1 Filstar Microfiltration pad

Thanks for the help...now I just wonder if it will be possible to use the media that I already had in the other filter...it was a fluval 304.

Marisa: I got it at petsmart...I still can't get over the price difference from store to online. I'm glad they price match! The only thing I didn't see there was the biomedia. They had extra filters and such, but none of the carbon and that stuff...at least in the rena brand. Do you suppose it is ok to use the fluval media since it's not been used that much?

I don't see why not (I think I mentioned doing that above)--it would actually be good to include some of the old media right from the tank water to seed the filter with beneficial bacteria.

Thanks! I have the new filter up and running and everything looks great. I'm excited about the reduction in noise as well!
