Other Turtle Discussion :: My turtle HISSED at me :*(

Today when I picked up one of my turtles. She hissed at me. She has never done this before. I put her back in and she stopped and did her usual begging for food dance. Than I picked her up again and she hissed non stop. :*( Do I need to hold them or play with them more??

Was it the noise from when she went into her shell?

No her head was out of her shell and her mouth was open and made the hissing sounds.

Could have been in a bad mood... but yea, put her back in if she's got that attitude.

Flippy has started doing that once in awhile too. She's normally okay with being handled, although she only really wants me to pick her up. I know it sounds stupid and possibly scientifically unfounded, but whenever I pick her up, I hold her up to my face and talk to her until she turns her head to look at me. Once she does, she stops trying to nip at the air. She'll let my fiance hold her after that, but we have a weird bond. She loves to climb under my shirt and just stay very still over my heart, and since I'm perfectly capable of showering with antibacterial body wash and throwing my clothes in the washer, I let her. I don't know if maybe she senses my heartbeat, or if she just likes being warm, or what.

If i grab Romeo to go outside before Juliette he acts like a punk..but of i let Juliette her out first he starts begging about 5 minutes later..no hissing no hiding in his shell no evil eye..he still hits the ground running..but calms as soon as he sees her.
She begs to be taken out..scratched and attented.climbs my feet and loves to explore.
