hi. i became a first time turtle owner when my dad bought me two 1 inch RES turtles for christmas. i'm a big xfiles fan so, of course, i named them mulder and scully. they have come a long way. one was sick but is now healthy and begs constantly for food. after reading that these turtles are aggressive beggars, i have calmed down about feeding them every time they begged, thinking that they were starving. they are a little over 2 inches now. This site gave me the knowledge for proper RES turtle care. MANY THANKS!!! and i'm sure i will be using this site in the future.

Cool- I just became a 1st time owner too! My Asa is 2 inches exactly right now. Yep, he begs a little too, heeehee. That's a really good close-up pic you have for your avatar!

Hi, My turtle name is King! Originally he was my class room pet! However due to down sizing he came home with me! King is such a cool turtle. Whenever I put him back his tank he like to go and shake his body under neath the filter steam of water. Also he like to stand on his hind leg and press against his tank! Tonight I came home and notice that King has little fat pockets that hang out on the side of both his legs. These areas are slightly pinkish in color. I plan to take him to a vet. Does anyone know of a good RES vet in NYC( Mahattan)?
