Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I will move the light closer to the ramp and see what happens
The old platform was a lot tighter I thought I'd give him more space
The light was closer to the ramp--he could hardly move it was smaller on the old set up
Maybe he liked that?
Maybe it has to be move private add wood around to give him a sense of security
That's the same light I've been using forever I don't know if its UVB but it does provide heat
Guess its the right lamp he grew up on it!
I'll try moving the light and post the results!
Hopefully it will make a difference it-- I am at wits end-- I'll go back to old set up
I was thinking about something this set up is in a black tank and the other was a fish tank
with glass would that make a difference?

There are many stories here about others moving tanks or putting in new basking platforms where the turtles took some time to get comfortable with the new setup and decide to bask.

I'd move the lamp, put a pellet or two at the top of the ramp like VeipaCray suggested and wait a bit. If your light just provides heat, I would also look at adding a UVB light. Your turtle may not have had one for years, but it is still good for it.

I moved the ramp closer to the light see photo!
Can't get him up there with food he's in too much of a hurry!
I was already to go back to the old set up: tank, ramp and basking platform!
I'll have to wait and see

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I would try to get it a little warmer than usual. What's the temperature kept at?

You could bump up that temperature then bring it down once the turtles gets used to going into the basking area. How many GPH is that filter?

How much media does it hold? Is it keeping your ammonia and nitrites at 0?

Steve,
By bumping up the temperature you mean put the light closer? Pump is 250 GPH
He almost went up to the dock yesterday I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
VeipaCray,
It's 16 inches high--the water seems real clean and I hope it will fill with with good bacteria to keep the ammonia and nitrates down-I never tested for ammonia and nitrate to be honest- I should have brought a sample to the wastewater plant
When I worked there-I have a waste water license too!
It is filled with scrubbie sponges from the dollar store cut into 2 inch squares to the top

Yes, and maybe move closer to the edge so he can feel more of the warmth.
