Hmmm hard to tell but things look pretty good. Do they not climb on it at all?

I know the feeling. Sheldon wouldn't bask (and he still has troubles) if it's too loud or someone walks into the room. I was thinking about nanny camming and seeing if he basked but after he got used to the rhythm in the house, he went up there on his own. :)

How long do you think it took him? Do you think i should leave them alone for a couple of days? Because I'm trying to treat the shell fungus and i think its beginning to get them scared.

Ah ye olde shell fungus. been there. Are you dry docking? Stick the lights over the dry dock. What are you using to treat it?

I used the stuff the vet gave me, silver sulfadiazine cream. It was a long hard battle but we nailed it.

Hey all,

Just finished my basking pad.. thanks to all the ideas on here. Kinda did mine on a budget. We have 1 8 inch turtle named Crush. We just got him from a lady at my my wife's work. He looked really cramped in the 20 gallon tank they gave us so we grabbed 100 gallon so the lil dude could swim. Here are some pics of the new basking area and tank.. any suggestions and feedback are welcomed as we've only had um for 4 days so still researching!

Still working on the aquarium look and feel... wondering where to get good aquarium background.. the ones at are local petsmart were horrible and did not stick or stay on the tank after trying tape oil and all sorts of suggestions. If anyone could point me to some quality ones that will stick and look good that would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Wow! That turtle must ecstatic going from 20 gallons to 100.

Looks good! A few suggestions: You'll probably find that HOB filter won't be enough filtration for an 8" turtle. Your turtle will produce a lot of waste. Since it's a new setup, your aquarium will be going through the nitrogen cycle. You'll want to get a test kit and keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite levels, that's also when you may find you want more filtration.

Finally, I'd be concerned about that aquarium overhanging. 100 gallons weighs more than 800 pounds. If there is no support along that front edge, you may have issues.

This is all constructive criticism. That environment looks great for a turtle! Much better than mine.

Thanks for the comments and advice. They are very much appreciated. I did add some extra support brackets to the back of the shelf just in case. The overhang worries us too so we may upgrade to a better stand. Definitely will grab a test kit... did not know about that! Thanks!

Ah I see. I was never sure if those made a lot of noise despite the "Quietflow" part. lol

I think ljapa brings up some good points. I'm not there yet with my Sheldon so I wish I could have been more helpful.

Haha ya the name can be deceiving. I have it below the recommended line so the waterfall produces a bit of noise... the filter itself is quiet though and when I did have it all the way up its just a little hum.... I will keep an eye on it and may upgrade to some of the suggested canister filters. Today I secured the stand with 1200lb rated brackets and minimized the overhang to about half an inch..so I feel a lot better about the weight!

Any suggestion on really good quality backgrounds that will actually stick? Want to beautify the tank!

Oh and I used my webcam today so while I was at work I could catch him catching some rays! At least I know he can make it up! (Sorry not great quality)

lol I figured as much. ;)

Nice work! I was thinking about doing that with my Sheldon when I wasn't sure he was basking. Quality doesn't have to be good as long as you can tell it's your little one. :)
