Habitat - Indoor :: I cant get lights anywhere (UVA and UVB)

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Almost any bulb that produces heat can be used for basking. Many people use a regular incandescent bulb, just make sure it's not too warm or close to the turtle.

As for the rest of the equipment and food, it should be much easier to find than the UVB lamp. I'd check with local groups, zoos and universities and see where they are buying their supplies from.

Don't forget, if you have space and good weather, you can take your turtle outside. They need proper supervision but there is no better source of UVB than the sun.

isint there any problem for her? they`ll nt fight right? or else i am already in problem because of her, and i cant handle 2 of them, neither can leave her in any pond, i think

Her home doesn't need to be a glass aquarium. People have used bath tubs, live stock tanks and pre made ponds before.

If you are certain you have a female, then you might be able to have another female in there BUT that is no guarantee they will get along. RES are aggressive, and if that happens then you will need to separate or re-home one of them.

yes she`s a female, she have small nails and yes she`s aggressive as females haahah, and i`m afriad tht she`ll fight with another thts why i dnt have courage to bring another, here shopkeeper dont even knows the diff between male and female, god wat a noobs. if some one in my area want a turtle i can even donate him in free, but only if he takes good care of her, i`m talking to my frnds continuously. bt i read tht UVb bulbs are no use after 6-8 months , :| and are very fragile too, i think it`ll brake during shipment :|

Its sad that turtles are so widely available. They can be very difficult to maintain as a "pet", the expense equals the appropriate care of cats and dogs.

I think compact bulbs are more sturdier than tube bulbs, but theres also some amount of risk.

I will tell you what if you can just get your turtle some sunlight during the days especially during the spring and summer I think it will be fine. you're having so much trouble trying to find a bulb to be honest if it was myself I would just give up and make sure my turtle gets some natural sunlight UVB. it will be OK trust me, I have a turtle that never basks at all. it's OK and you seem like a really good keeper so I think everything will be ok and used just a regular yellow light bulb for heate do you have a thermometer for the basking area?

I think Kansasslider is right. You don't necessarily need to stop looking for a light, but natural sunlight has a much healthier spectrum than any artificial light. I know there are parts of India that can get quite cold during the year, but my guess is you have nice weather much longer than I do near Chicago or Kansasslider does in Kansas.

There are some posts here where people with indoor turtles have built outdoor basking areas, like this one

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=32365&p=307691&hilit=paint+tray#p307691

You don't need to go that elaborate. The advantage of something like that is that water is available to cool off.

I know in my area, when I try outdoor basking this summer, I will need to watch out for wildlife like hawks and foxes, which we have in abundance. You will definitely want to supervise your turtle outside, and make sure you offer a way to get out of the sun wherever you let it bask.
