For some reason mine does the same thing every time I mess with it and plug it back in. It only does is for a few seconds. Try to unplug it and plug it back in. Other than that make sure its put together correctly. The impeller shaft has a little black piece that has to lign up with the white impeller. If it doesn't work I can try to take a picture of the impeller.

Did a Google search and found that this noise at start up is normal. Well kinda. Its a design flaw. The noise should only last for a little bit. If its making noise for longer than that they say to make sure the prop shaft is centered in the output cover.

Ok, hopefully it is gone before I get home, no way I can leave that on while the turts are trying to sleep.

I know that it stayed loud for at least 45 minutes this morning, then I had to leave for work. I took it apart once to check it and it seemed right.

My wife moved the bubbler away and said that seemed to help a little.

It seems to have gotten a bit better. The good news is that I measured the turts today.

Lea - 2.75 inches

Mikey - 2.0 Inches

They are the same age.

It got better. It is silent now. May get a second one in the future. It is strong enough to push the water from one end of the tank to the other so I think it is mixing the water pretty well. It blew Lea to the middle of the tank last night,. It didn't seem to bother her any though.

Pits? Pit bulls? Nah, I am a German Shepard guy, but currently we have 3 black cats, 2 turtles, some kind of rat dog, and 3 real kids.
