I have a new 40 gallon stock tank set up and I am curious of which kind of heater I should get. The side of the tank says to use only cage heaters. Any recommendations? Or can I get away with another Stealth heather?

Well, all Stealth heaters have been recalled. You will be offered free shipping to return those and they will send you a check for working and non-working heaters. I think you can also ask for replacements, but look into the Eheim Jager heater. There are few other good brands, that come in stainless and in-line for a canister filter.

I never considered in-line heater. Seems like a good option since I don't like unnecessary things floating inside the tank.

What kind of stock tank. Meaning what's it made out of? I own 2 black Rubbermaid stock tanks and fish tank heaters don't get hot enough to melt plastic. The only problem is they don't stick to the plastic. I use a strip of plexi glass to mount the heaters. The warning is for stock tank heaters they get really hot because they have to keep the tank from freezing.

Here is the recall #1-800-338-4896 There are plenty of pics online of heaters (and aquariums) that have exploded. Aquarium heaters will also not get hot enough to damage a stock tank. I just left it hanging in there, though plexiglass sounds like a good idea.

I like the idea of a stainless steel heater but I cannot find any decent recommendations. Any suggestions? I am looking for something that is shatter proof.

I have an Aqueon Pro. I have had it for almost 2 years and it works great. Lifetime Warranty. Then there is the Eheim Jager heaters. They are made of shatter proof glass. I also own one of them and its also a good heater the only downfall is the 3 year warranty. Here is a list of good heaters.

I had a stock tank when I had to separate my turtles. I eventually picked up a used aquarium. I still have it and try to use it as a summer tank, but they don't like it.
