These are pictures of two habitats I recently established. The first two pictures show a basking area made of cement board, which hangs overhead by two brackets. The ramp is attached with screws, thanks to my Dad, who assembled this for me (but I created the design). :D I used PVC piping to anchor and suspend the filter from above, which allows for a wide open swimming area below. I used more PVC to create a bar from which the lights hang overhead. I placed rocks on the cement board to give "Lundquist" a place to dry off completely. For the most part this habitat is complete but I want to get a better filtration system in the future.

The third picture shows home of "Kitty The Wonder Turtle", who has thankfully overcome malnutrition, a respiratory infection, and an abscessed wound. "Kitty" had a rough start but is thriving much better these days - so much stronger! Yippee! I made this basking area and ramp from PVC, acrylic, vinyl, and a milk crate. I clipped the top off the milk crate to suspend the uvb bulb 12 inches above the dock. The basking light hangs overhead from an adjacent shelf. I clamped the light to a ruler and anchored it with a ten pound ankle weight - it's not very pretty but it works.

Both habitats are 110 ten gallon stock tanks, which I personally prefer over a glass aquarium because I find them easier to clean, more affordable, and more private - again, not as pretty but these habitats are located in a remote location of the house.

I've really enjoyed viewing everyone else's pictures - so many interesting and creative ideas :!:

Wow! How heavy are those tubs? Are they on a concrete floor? They look like a lot of fun! :) Well done!

I can't take credit for the design and I want to thank liamlunchtray for such a well explained video. His design turned out great.

Have a great Xmas everyone!

I just wanted to show you guys how my project turned out. Also if anyone is contemplating starting one of these above tank basking areas this design is simplistic and practical. It took me a long time to finally decide to do one of these and I am glad I did. It makes the tank larger and it works/looks a lot better than a floating dock.

Looks great J.flick8@gmail.com! :)

Love yours too Kansasslider!

Question - how do you guys know that the piece of furniture beneath it will support the tank, the water, and the added weight of the ATBA?

My stand is actually the bottom of an only entertainment stand. Just got lucky I guess. The stand has 6 strong legs on it.

You did a great job. Thanks for sharing! I like the boat shelf to hold your turtle supplies. It looks really nice. I have seen anchor aquarium decorations that would look great with the boat theme. You have given me some ideas. Thanks

Oh I see. I think when I need to go that route with Sheldon, I may have to get a different piece of furniture. Thanks Kansasslider. :)

My frame came with the tank so I wasn't concerned with it holding the weight of the tank full. As for the ATBA I'm guessing it weighs 10-15 pounds so its not adding much to the setup

I agree most of my atba is plexi not muck weight. Its more the water weight you need to be concerned about. Oh and it has 3 cabinet doors with lots of storage. Could find a used one?

I have a 40 gallon tank - half full. The cabinet I have is meant to hold a TV and associated paraphernalia. I'm just thinking that if I practically fill it and then add a wooden ATBA, that the furniture won't hold. I am on the second floor of my apartment building too.

Your 40 should be full. What's up with that built? Your down stairs neighbors won't mind a little crash....
