The filter media is as old as the filter itself. I just ordered a whole new set of media inserts.
I have a bare bottom tank. It might just be some remaining gunk that was in the filter before I refilled everything.

The media should be coming friday so Ill get a short purge valve tube and drain the canister.

How do you all drain the tank for a water change? I have been emptying it with a 2 gallon bucket and dumping it in the tub. It takes me about an hour to empty and refill.

The instructions didnt mention any way of using the canister to drain the whole tank. If that is possible that would be much easier. All I would need is a 50 foot tube haha.

Dumbledore is much more...active now that the heater is in. I tries so desperately to swim into us. I thought the water was too warm so I lowered it a bit. She still seems pretty active.

I have a small pump that I use some clear tubing with. You can also just siphon out the water but it'll take longer. You don't have to drain the tank to setup the canister though.

Hopefully when I replace the media the smell and cloudy water will change. If not I will just replace the tank with new water as well as the filter.

Welp I replaced the media and foam in the canister. Of course I realized I didnt buy enough so I ordered a few more media boxes and foam inserts.
I hope the media stuff I have now will help with the cloudy sulfur water.

I used egg crate just like that for mine but used a clear plastic tub for the top. Itholds the heat better and it is to slick to climb. Just had to redo big bertha's ramp because she got to big!
