So, my turtles won't let me watch them bask. So they thought!! Just installed a surveillance camera and hooked it up to my TV. Yes I'm bored...

Too funny! I want to do this with my birds. I'm hoping when I get my laptop back, I can connect a webcam to watch them. I have one who doesn't like people much, I'd love to know what he does when we're gone.

Trying to keep track of basking behavior and who is getting the treats.

I want to do this for my girls to see what they do all day. Thought it would be fun to watch at higher speeds.

Its pretty cool. Just now caught both my res and Mississippi up on there at the same time. Anyone know why my female res doesn't like to bask. My miss basks all day long usually well with breaks.

My female RES is a bit more skittish, how long have they been in there?

Close to 6 months. The basking rock is pretty new but she really hasn't basked that much since I got her? She might get out of the water 2 or three times a week.

Maybe it's just the openness of the tank location. When I tried a stock tank outdoors, neither turtle liked it or basked.

This is a great idea! Toku never really had a problem getting on the log, but at the start any sign of me and he was gone. So i tried to record him and well it was a lot of swimming along the front and back of the tank and scavenging along the sand. then he would climb on the log see the camera and dart back in the water, to repeat the steps about every 20 mins or so. Now he doesn't care and will bask with me in the room. Boba never had a problem with me being in the room, he will keep basking till food comes along. I love your idea and it seems you are having better luck with it than I did. Although the video I got was 4 hrs. long, it was very entertaining to see. Unfortunately I can't speed edit it for a time-lapse.

I have to sneak up on mine in order to watch them basking although I've only had them for a little over a week. I did have one of my little hatchlings eat right out of my hand. I thought that was a good sign.

One thing I did figure out this year is my 2nd that I have had my turtles. It doesn't matter if they are inside in a heated tank they still know its Winter! My turtles hardly ate hardly basked. But now that its spring I can't feed enough lettuce. And they both bask a lot. So if your turtle doesn't eat a lot during the winter its nothing to worry about they will get their hunger back in the spring. And right now I don't use the can at all. Too busy with fishing gardening and work.PS Beer Drinking!
