Habitat - Indoor :: My new Aquatic Turtle Setup

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

This is my first attempt with keeping turtles. I am getting two common map turtles next week. I also plan to add another strip light over the water area with additional UVB. I just wanted to share a pic of my new setup and see if anyone sees anything I should add or delete.

Thanks

Beautiful setup, I like it! :) But, I think there isn't a need to spend extra money to add the additional uvb light above the water surface as uvb can't really penetrate (at all) through the water and can't benefit your turtles in that manner. Just my 2 cents though, correct me if I'm wrong. Cheers!

Thanks. The reason I was going to add the strip light UVB over the water area was because I am also adding a floating dock in that area and I thought it would give them more opportunity to soak up some UVB. I also have a large piece of driftwood that is going in the tank.

I'd check the recommended distances on a strip light. Most are sold to provide UVB at the bottom of a terrarium. A turtle on the surface an inch away may get too much UVB.

I'm not saying don't, just make sure your UVB bulb is designed to be used so close.
