Does it look like new shell underneeth? Does the area smell bad? Sorry I thought you didn't know turtles shed and I'm on a phone so I can't really tell what it looks like all that well.

It's light underneath . I can't really tell and I knew they shed just wasn't sure if that's what it should look like

It looks like normal shedding to me. You can help it along by feeding hikari wheat germ at 50% of normal diet.

I'd also feed less (maybe 1/2 the amount?), the seams around the scutes are pretty thick.

Thanks you guys ! ALSO I learned my "male" eastern painted is a female lol , she laid an egg in the tank today I had a suspicion when she kept trying to dig out of the tank that she was female , and then I checked her for eggs and I could feel them , so I mwade a nesting box in the tank today

Sadly she won't use the box she's already destroyed 2 eggs but I saw one in the tank and snagged it , I made an incubator probably not the best one bust I've read up on them so I know they work , I have a moist dirt mixture in a tightly sealed butter container with a heat lamp on it to keep the humidity inside high , I'm crossing my fingers And I felt my turtle from the way it feels I believe she still has an egg in there so I'm waiting for her to lay it so I can snag it and put it with the other . I hope it works !!!!!

BAH I now have TWO eastern painted turtle eggs and I made a new incubator , it's a styrofoam cooler with water in the bottom and I have a water heater in there and a smaller container with some dirt in it that the eggs are resting on , the container I have the eggs in is sitting on a brick out of the water , and I have plastic wrap covering the top of the cooler taped on tightly , I'm not sure what the humidity is but the temp stays between 82.8F and 85.5F if someone can give me some pointers Id greatly appreciate it !

My turtles like it. How's the egg hatching going? Sorry i'm not much help on that subject.. 4th weekend I suppose everyone is busy or someone would have tried to help you out.

I have the temp in there at 84ish and I poked some holes for ventilation so it doesn't get too warm , 3 days down about 45 more to go ! And bah yes I've burned myself a few times already xD mom made some awesome burgers , she mixed BBq sauce in the meat , oh my lord it was amazeeeee I swear lol .

Do you have a male turtle in the same tank as the female that laid the eggs?

No she's a wild caught turtle , I caught her in May , the time they breed , so im assuming she bred before I got her and now she laid her eggs and HOPEFULLY they hatch by the end of August !

Female turtles can lay eggs even if they didn't mate. But you never know.

I know !(: just like a chicken lol , but I'm hoping she bred before I caught her , then I'll have not 2 but THREE babies ! She laid another egg today !!
