I'm so sorry, but also glad you aren't shying away from having another turtle. I think it's best for you to consider what works for you. What did you like and dislike (if anything) about having an RES? Do you want a turtle that requires more maintenance, or less maintenance? Painteds from what I understand are really hardy. Map turtles can be more sensitive to their environments, but they have amazing personalities and are totally worth it. Terrapins are another possibility, like a diamondback, since the brackish water would be a cool learning experience.
