I just got this red eared slider from a friend who was going to throw her into the river (I live in IL so this is a problem). So I took her from my friend and they have her in this small 20 gal tank with barely enough water to cover her shell. Her shell is all green and all she can do is lay there. I added water and bought her a heat lamp (they didn't even give her one) she has a turtle dock now and the water is as high as I can have it. She didn't even know how to swim when i put her in there though so i lowered the water level so she could still breathe. I don't know how to get her shell clean or what i should do please help I am lost.

There is algae on the shell, then I would do a gentle scrub and clean it up so you can inspected. Use a new, soft toothbrush or small scrubbing brush and just water.

Usually a little algae is not a problem but considering where she came from it would be a good idea to have a good look. Can you post a picture of the show? How big is the turtle?

Ok so here she is. I tried the whole toothbrush thing, but almost nothing came off. I think she is around 4-5 inches she's pretty heavy too. I don't know if that picture will work my computer is being weird./Users/sydneysegretto/Desktop/GetAttachment.aspx.jpeg

I don't see your image. Click Full Editor, then the Upload attachment tab. Feel free to email it to me if troubles persist.
