Ok so I have a lot of algae on the rocks in my tank on the basking side. I took the risk bought a sucker fish that was about the same size as my res and she still ate it like I figured she would. Is there any way besides scraping it off the rocks? Like something that I can just add to the water. Everything I find just removes chlorine and the other stuff. Nothing affects the growth of algae in a turtle tank that I can find.
There are chemicals you can add to remove algae (algae fix) but we're not big fans of adding chemicals on here. I would either remove some of the rocks or limit the nutrients feeding the algae, mainly light.
I'm fighting the same issue and am having no luck with the (generally frowned upon) chemical treatments anyways. I did have them in some natural sun, now I've removed that for a couple of weeks and I'm almost afraid that my fluval light is too good allowing it to grow. I'm going to turn off my tank lights for a bit (my basking area is removed from the water area) and see if I can kill it with darkness.
