Equipment Review and Discussion :: Is this a steep price for a 10 gallon tank hood?

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday to look for another tank hood for my 10 gallon fish tank, as well as buying school supplies (school starts tomorrow). My current hood broke, plus it got the tank really hot to where the tank was almost 100 degrees. I found a full flourescent hood, something that supposedly emits less heat than the screw-in bulb hoods, and they were selling for $28. Does this seem like a very steep price, it did to me.

dunno, but i got a ten gallon hood w/ light at a garage sale for 5 bucks and it worked . that was like 2 years ago though.

Yes, that price is the norm for a 10 gallon tank hood, I have seen higher priced ones though. A cheaper alternative would be a screen instead of the hood that holds those long lights. If you want proper lighting, that's a good price. That's the only reason it's priced that high.
