Habitat - Indoor :: Tank question (urgent)

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Tue Aug 22, 2006 8:56 pm   Tank question (urgent)

Hello,

This question is urgent because the liquidation sale ends tommorow. Which tank would be best for my red eared sliders. Either the

125 Gallon 72" lenght 18" width 23 height
OR

120 Gallon 48" lenght 24 width 25 height

Again if you could please just answer with either 125 or 120 ASAP because I really need an answer by tonight if AT ALL possible.

Thanks

I have always been told the long the the better given the turtle more lenght to swim and the dept is not as important.

How many RES do you have, how big are they and do you know their sex? Is there a big price difference? My tank is 24" wide and I really like the extra space.

I have two male Red eared sliders. about 6 inches, this is to be there enclosure for the next couple years. I'm leaning towards the 120 b/c it's wide so they can swim side to side/turn around easier. The lenght is somewhat of a factor, but at 125 they swim 6 feet, then have to make an effort to turn around w/o hitting the sides. The 120 they swim 4 ft but then can make a turn at full speed w/o worry of clunking the side of the tank. Therefore they can swim around and around without slowing down. the never ending tank lol.

What's your opinion Steve?

BTW,

72" length 18" width 23" height is roughly 130 gallons
48" length 24" width 25" height is roughly 125 gallons

With 2 males, I would lean towards the 72" only because you could divide that in half if it is ever necessary. If they get along well then I would lean towards the 48" one. You might also want to think about how this will fit into your house/apartment.

They get along like best friends. So I guess I"ll be picking up the 48" one, I have enough room in my house, the tank will be placed on the 1st floor near where two walls come together, I think that's the strongest area in the house. Also, if one of them gets sick, I have seperate tanks so the second turtle doesn't catch the illness also.

Thank you

Oh, btw steve, the reason your calculations are different from the All-Glass calculations is because, in the dimensions, All-Glass includes the tank frame. But, in reality the tank can only hold 120 gallons.
