Another question, what kind of tank? Are we talking a pond or glass? Glass is heavy too and risky to use outdoors. A screen should have a grid of 1/2" to allow sufficient passage of UVB. As for the algae... you'll need to explore the different solutions to control it.

there is no way 1 gallon of water weighs 8.3lbs, there is just no way. Think about it...a one gallon milk jug doesnt weigh 8.3 pounds. water at most it is prolly like 5 pounds a gallon.

You can always weigh a gallon of water on a scale, if you don't believe it.

Is this a good excuse for being overweight? lol. If 3/4 of the body is made of water, start doing that math...add to that fact, women retain water during certain times of the month. Geeee

A late update- (VERY late)

We agreed that the porch was not the best place to put a stock tank in so we're going for the backyard. The only problems facing us are predators (includes the two dogs, one of them a new cocker spaniel puppy 1+ year old), and the electric supply for the filter and what not. I'm working on both, so it should be no big.

The only thing left is to check out the stock tanks at Tractor Supply Co.
