Unsuitable??

How do you know that?? How can make a judgement like that and judging my friend's set-up?? He had his turtles much longer than me and I go to his house every week. You didn't see the habitat I have set up! I live in an apartment with limited space.

Ok, what is your habitat consist of??? Since you know my story, I want to hear yours.

I don't want to be thought of like that. I joined this forum yesterday and I felt Jen was attacking me and making judgements like that about me and my friends, who is probably not even in the forum. I'm not here to be disrespectful to anybody, but I don't want people to regard me as a moron who diesn't have a clue what to do. That's all.....no disrespect. = )

Ok let me respectfully answer your questions

I know that because you said yourself that your friend has 2 adult res in a 30gal. That's unsuitable. Not enough space for 1 adult let alone 2. Go ahead and post pics of your res' habitat if it'll make you feel better and we can go from there.

Don't get me started on 'limited space' mkay? I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment and the bedroom is not even a bedroom. It's a reptile room. My animals need the space more than I do so I sacrificed my comfort for theirs. I have two 2yo res (6in each) in a 125gal tank with suitable accessories. Fluval 404 canister filter, 200W heater, Uva/uvb combo bulb. Large basking area. Basking temp is 90-92, water temp 72-76. They have plants, river rocks and a variety of fish for mental stimulation. Here..I'll even give you some pics. If you want a feeding schedule to boot, just ask.

I also have several other pets that I've done extensive research on and I've accomodated appropriately.

No one called you a moron. Those were your words, not ours.

Wow....that really is a nice set-up. Really! = ) I do all my email via Tmail (T-Mobile) by a Sidekick II. I can only send pics from one email to another. How long did you have your turtles? I had mine for almost 3 months. I may take your advice about getting a rubbermaid 50 or over gallon set-up. I basically rent a room from my friends' (not the friend with turtles) house.....I may have to rearrange some stuff to accomodate my set-up. There is a Target right down the street from where I live.

Out of curiosity...about your water heater. Do you have a plastic protective covering for it? I bought mine @ Petland and the clerk sold me a Tetramin (I think that was the name) water heater suited for turtle tanks. It has a plastic protective covering preventing the turtles from biting into the heater.

=)

I don't remember what brand mine is but it's similar to the Ebo Jager brand and pretty much unbreakable.

I've had my 2 res for a bit over 2 years. I've had my 2 boxies for a bit over a year.

Keep in mind that you'll have to brace it somehow so the sides don't bow out under the water pressure.

Not from me, sorry. Post a new topic in the Habitat Indoor section and you'll probably get better response. I know some of the members here have done it.

Chris, it's really good to be interacting with you. We're all learning together on here. Most people have no idea how complex a good turtle setup is until they go through the process. I had had my Spot for two years before I found this forum. He was living, but really not thriving. Since I learned what to do and am taking better care of him, he's like a new turtle. It sounds like you've already got a lot of the bases covered.

The good news is, once you've got a really good setup, then turtle-keeping is quite easy and a lot of fun. RES's are interactive and lively and have all sorts of interesting and cute behaviors. As you've already discovered!

It's great interacting with all of you, too. I got some advice from Jen the mediator to buy a rubbermaid 50+ gallon tank and I should brace it from water pressure. How do I do that? Do you know, SpotsMama?

I've never used a rubbermaid like that though I know a lot of people on here have. I think there are some photos in the Photo Gallery section of good rubbermaid setups.

What comes to my mind is setting the rubbermaid in some sort of frame like a wooden crate. That could actually be quite pretty if the crate were painted or covered with vinyl or plastic tiles. Are you the handy type?

I'll see if I can find some of the photos with rubbermaid setups and get back to you.

Hopefully some of the people who've actually done it will respond!

Nah, I'm not the handy type. I'm at work most of the time. I'm sure a 55 gallon aquarium would cost me quite some money. I'll take a look at the photo galary at my spare time.

Here's one that popped up:

http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewt ... 02&start=0

This one doesn't appear to be braced. However, there are a lot of rocks in the bottom that would give it stability and it isn't too full of water.

See what you can find using the Advance Search at the top of each page.
