Have the heat lamp keep the basking area about 90*. This will require some ajusting but you'll get it. Also, try to have the basking light on to replicate the environment.

Yeah I went out last night and bought more stuff for him for this weekend. I bought a 10 gallon tank if I can find somewhere to put it, with a new filter and a water heater plus I got him something else to bask on and i a new basking light that's suppose to be more direct and keep things warm. I'll try that.

I suggest having a thermometer that has a suction cup (dosent stick to the glass) because then you can set it on your basking rock and find out the tempature and adjust your light as necessary. I have been monitoring mine for 4 days now to make sure 90* is the standard temp...

Before i just used a stick on thermometer on the back of the tank but when i used my glass thermometer on the rock i found it was a little warm.

Also a 10 gal tank is good for now, but they usually recommend 10 gal per inch of shell. Just keep this in mind. And as a general consinsious (sp?) of the board, you should just go big rather then getting one for the "time being" it will be cheper in the end... Good upgrades though!
