Habitat - Indoor :: Basking spot sliding down the wall

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I figured I would share my solution, just in case.

I got one of the nice XL clear acrylic basking docks for Sheba. Things were great at first, suction cups held like glue. Until....some algae started growing, making the walls very slippery. All of a sudden my "perfect" basking dock turned into a slippery nightmare! It was adjusting it every hour!!! Finally it occured to me that the 2 piece magnet cleaner could serve a dual purpose. VOILA! No more sliding! See picture!!!

Some suction cups lose a bit of their form and become ineffective. I’ve noticed the stiffer ones usually lose their suction quicker than others. Maybe soaking it in some hot water may help

LOL! I did, but it still was slippery. The algae growth in the picture actually came *after* I put the magnet underneath the platform.

Actually, I am a Automotive Quality Engineer by trade. I like Industrial (gothic/techno/hard rock) music, so that's where the "industrial" came from in my internet name.

The snails i was complaining about are taking care of my algae issue in both tanks.

Unfortunately that's not an option for me. My turtle is a HUGE girl & would eat a snail or any other algae eater.

I have an algae scraper (pole with scraper on the end) that works really well. Unfortunately, that corner of the tank (in the picture) is right underneath the basking lamp & gets more algae than the rest of the tank. I have to scrape it almost daily.

i read somewhere, can't remember where, but supposedly if you soak suction cups in warm oil they sotfen and stick better. especially if they have been left lying around and have dried out a bit or if they go stiff.

any of you guys know anything about this. any comments.

did you try to position it when the cups were dried and the tank empty with walls dried too?
