I do believe that she got that light at walmart or something like that. You just use whatever wattage bulb that will bring the basking temp up to what it should be.. somewhere around 90.

Yay! At least people are using the search feature. I was actually going to ask the same question, the lighting set up looks very nice. I wonder if she'll respond...

These pics were all taken in complete darkness while Koopa slept, so sorry if they aren't the greatest. It was impossible to see exactly where to focus. lol Just wanted to share them though in case someone else needed the idea. :)

Gosh, that's so cute. I wish there was something like that I could rig up for my big baby.

<---- Going to Walmart tonight to find a light like that. I can't get the clamp lights close enough to the basking area. Monitored it the past two days and it only gets to 84.

Maybe you just need a stronger wattage lightbulb?? You don't want to get the light too close to the basking area or the water. There have been posts in the past about water splashing on the bulb and shattering it. Just sort of an FYI :)

I don't feel the 60 watts is doing the trick.

I was looking at those big work lights at home depot. 100 watts might be the ticket.

You should try a 75 watt first. I have to get a new lamp, the one I have is only rated for 60w, because the 60 is only getting to about 82-84 degrees. I think 100w would be too much. It would be better to get one not enough than run the threat of burning your terp.

Anyone use halogen? Obviously you would need one with a dimmer, but are they safe or not worth the risk?

Halogens don't produce "natural" yellow light. I don't think it would be necessary to spend the extra money on a halogen bulb. The yellow lights look more like the sun imo.

I was just thinking for a heat source. I have a combo UVA/UVB light, but need to upgrade the lamp I am using for heat.

For heat quite a few of us use regular household bulbs like the ones you find at Target and Walmart.

Yeah, but the halogen is so powerful that it'll "overpower" the combo bulb and still put that white light on your platform. As flutterby said, you can use a regular household bulb and save some money. Is there any particular reason you want to use the halogen bulb?

No, I just have to buy a new lamp, the one I have is only a 60w and that is not enough. I think 75w will be perfect, but I will get a lamp that is 100-150w. And I was just dreaming of a set up like gray goose's, I notice he has a halogen light for heat.
