Habitat - Indoor :: Half Land/ Half Water

I'm about to get a 29gallon aquarium. I'm interested in making a half land/half water aquarium. I want to make it off just to one of the sides, so it doesn't take up almost any room. Like about 8 inches into the tank, almost to the top with a steep grade. Does anyone think this would be a good idea? Does anyone know how to make something like this?

I wouldn't waste the swimming room for land. Like marisa said in another post RES don't need land as long as they have an adequate basking area.

In my opinion, you're turtle would probably be happier with more swimming space over the land hon.

I was thinking of doing that, but with a larger tank. If you had, say, a 100 gal or so, I'd say go for it. I wouldn't know where to start tho.

I wonder if you could build some sort of acrylic enclosure for the dirt area instead of filling it from top to bottom.. Like an acrylic box that would allow for swimming area under the "dirt" section. That way you'd have both but not take up a lot of swimming area. Where is our DIY man.. bradhart.. think you could do something like that??

bradfort, type DIY (filter) into Google or Yahoo to see what they are. Actually, people do build turtle condos or club houses/basking areas above the tank. It's what I would do if I had to make a nesting area for a turt.

Well I'm looking at ebay for bigger aquariums. There is a lot of nice aquariums under $150, but none of them will ship. It's all local pick up.

That's why I'm looking for something bigger then a 29 gallon, I'll have to start looking in the classifieds every day.

Good luck. Try also garage sales, etc. You can get some great bargains at either if you hit it right.

I just looked at the classifieds, 29 gallon salt water tank with fish and supplies, $100. That's not bad.

I'd be looking basically for a tank (hopefully with a stand). There was 90-gallon tank (only) advertised in the local paper a few weeks back for around $50 (this was probably an extra good deal). At a flea market last year I was offered a 55-gallon tank (only) for $50.00 as well.
