Oh another thing..
If you choose to use acrylic, find a place that leaves the edges even once its cut. I had mine done at OSH and it wasn't even, and I had to sand each piece to fit and balance correctly. Due to this, I had to also use another acrylic board on the bottom of the basking area to stabilize it and make sure it wouldn't topple (Imagine a sideways H). Either way, it;s probably a good idea to use a stabilizing piece on the bottom incase the basking/land area has weight distributed unevenly. Also, I drilled holes in each horizontal piece so that water could pass through (no resistance/less stress on joints), when I'm putting it in or taking it out.

Make sure he has the correct lighting (UVB light and heat light), good filtration, proper water and basking area temps, an easily accessible basking area, and a good diet (read the forums for info). Look at the Photo Gallery for ideas on what you can put in the tank to make it more interesting for your turt.

If you have specific questions, then post. :)

When my guys were little their tanks were like that. I had a 20 gal long tank and I seperated about a third of it with a piece of glass and sealed it off. I filled the small side up with dirt and rocks. They liked it, but the tank got to small for them really quickly. Then I got a 40 gal tank and decided not to waste so much room on land.

I made a platform by sealing a piece of glass horizontally across about 1/3 of the tank about 2 inches from the top. Then glued(with aquarium sealant) another 1'' tall piece of glass to it to form a platform and filled it with rocks. I ended up having to make a wire top for the aquarium so they couldn't get out. But they were able to swim under it, so almost the whole 40 gallons was water.

Too bad that one got to small for them too!!

I'm thinking about getting a 55 gallon soon. Making just a portion of land. He's only 1 3/4", so after he would outgrow the 55 gallon, I'm going to buy like a 150 gallon pond.
