Well, I took the turtles to the vet yesterday and he gave both of them a shot... Cheech freaked out, the Dr. said it probably burned him... but they should be fine now.

He told me they most likely got the infection from an infected guppy. He recommended next time I get guppies to feed them to the turtles already dead. He said the most humane way to kill them is to empty the water from the bag they came in and fill it with hot water. The temperature shock kills them immediately and painlessly and then freeze the dead guppies for a few days, that should kill any bacteria.

There's always that risk of introducing disease or parasites when using live feeders.

Any live food has the chance of containing parasites, some more than others.

He said that turtles getting tapeworm from eating guppies is not common, however, it is very possible.

if i had this on my turtles id be panicing! and you should defenatly report the salesman for mistreating the turtles.
in canada its illegal to SELL a turtle without the proper liscence which is only recieved from proper expertiss.

Hi, my turtle has the same problem but it only happened a few times 3 days ago. i woke up in the morning and her tank had a few of these white string poop floating around.

I thought it had to do with th fact that 2 weeks ago she laid unfertile eggs (without mating). I took her to the vet 2 weeks ago when she has the eggs and they took Xrays of her and saw 5 eggs. They injected her with a medicine so she could lay them and she did. They only charged me 63€ euros and they did a great job.

All was fine and then 2 weeks after, the white stringy poopy thing started happening.. I guess it has nothing to do with the egg situation, since your turtle is small and has not reached sexual maturity yet. I am thinking of taking her to the vet again.

My turtle has not been in contact with any other animals ever and I keep her water fairly clean.. so no chance she got this from guppies

If/when you take her to the vet again, bring a stool sample.
