Habitat - Indoor :: Pics inside, custom basking area and new tank decorations.

My new setup for Squirt, after seperating her from her male buddy because of fighting she became very skidish. Everytime we would walk by or anything she went nuts like we were going to grab her, she was afraid to bask it was almost as if she felt like he protected her and now she had no protection.

So I decided to upgrade her tank it’s a 55 gal breeder tank 36x18x18(same tank new surroundings) .
I made a plexiglass basking area 18x10 with a 7x7 ramp by cutting the plexiglass to fit inside the tank, then bent the ramp in it by heating it up and finished it off by glueing a million river rocks to it and some fake plants as well to add some security for her as well as adding a hiding place under water and some rocks for the bottom of the tank. I put her in the new setup last night and she feaked out at first then started exploring, I have not seen her on the new basking area yet but I am hopeing she will venture up there soon. She did go half way up the ramp, but she stopped there and just looked around.

Really looks great! I would keep an eye on the acrylic, it will expand a little when exposed to the water.

Yes very many rocks for hours. I worked on this for a week, measuring cutting the plexiglass then, qlueing the rocks about 1-2 hours a night for 3 nights. Then the plants I did't want to just spread the glue out all over the plexi, so I glued each rock one by one .

Great job ! wondering how to attach the supports under the basking area to the glass of the tank. did you use silicone? also what type of glue can you use for something like this ? I'd assume it to be something non-toxic.
