Other Turtle Discussion :: Petco steps their game up (RES caresheet)

Non-care related topics here.

Post Posted: Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:37 pm   Petco steps their game up (RES caresheet)

today i was eating at Panera bread and decided to visit the petco across the street, just to see how their store was setup (and of course) check out if they have RES there and some turtle related products.

well they had the normal things like light, basking dock, on and on, but i stumbled upon a rack of caresheets for many reptiles. I found their RES brochure about caring for them and in comparison to all the rants ive seen about how petco and petsmart have poor caresheets and how everyone is trying to get on their case about it.

you will be COMPLETELY amazed after seeing this:

FRONT ( i call it, the warning page haha)

INSIDE (the words Do not house different species of reptiles together got cut out at the bottom)

sure there are several things that can be changed, but wow, i was seriously impressed.[/i]

HOLY COW!! That sounds like one of us (the forum members) wrote it! That's such a marked improvement over previous versions. I think we are finally getting through to them!

Anybody know if a pdf version is available somewhere online. I took a quick look at Petco's web site but didn't see one. We don't have Petco up here in the "great white north":-)

Never mind. Finally found all the care sheets here;

http://www.petco.com/CareSheets/CareSheets.aspx?Nav=154

The direct link to the turtle flyer (dated 2006, so not exactly what Raphulk found);

Our local Petco seems to be much more committed to animal adoption and care. They have a computer that has lists of the shelter and foster care animals available for placement. Every weekend animal rescue groups are there with cats and dogs for adoption. Their employees are knowledgeable and helpful - one has an animal rescue as well. My impression is that they are trying to encourage responsible pet ownership and care.

While I dont get the same vibe from petsmart at all - their selection of products is better. About 1/4 of the store is aquarium reptile vs only about 1/6 at petsmart. It is frustrating because I like petco better, but they just dont carry fish stuff locally. Too bad. I do like what seems to be an organizational commitment to animal adoption.

I think it's the wave of redearslider.com people going in and telling them how dumb they are that finally did it :lol:

It's great to finally see a store like provide the proper information. We just have to keep it up and keep yelling till they all do it :lol:

That is awesome! Shows how much better PetCo is than PetSmart... as far as actually knowing stuff about animals. I was recently at a local PetCo that had a huge new chart in the fish area showing the compatibility of all different fish with each other... very cool I thought. I do think that PetSmart has a bigger selection and cheaper prices, but they lack good animal care info.
