Habitat - Indoor :: Tank Cleaning

I need your input on a couple o' questions. How often do you exchange the water? How do you exhchange the water? Thanks, this'll give me an idea if I'm missing something, or doing something wrong with the tank cleaning.

It depends on how big the tank is, how many turtles you've got in there and what you're using for filtration.

With my old 50gal, two 5inch turts and a fluval 4plus filter, I had to do a complete water change almost every week, which included cleaning the filter.

With my 125gal, two 6inch turts and a fluval 404 canister filter, I clean the filter every 2 months and I haven't done even a partial water change since I moved at the beginning of April. I add about 40liters of clean water a week to make up for evaporation but that's about it. It's about time to do a partial water change now but it'll be less than half just to get the crap off of the bottom.

I use the Python cleaning system. It hooks up to your sink and fills/drains with no mess. Look into it if you haven't already.

do u have 2 create suction or just hook it up 2 the sink?

It comes with instructions. You hook it up to the sink and turn the nozzle down to drain and back up to fill. Turning the water on creates the suction (don't ask me how..lol) If you google "Python cleaning system" you'll get a site with pics and stuff too.

I have the python cleaning system... unfortunatly, the closest sink to the tank, doesn't have enough strength to go through the long hose without exploding, so it's collecting dust in the back of my closet. Eh... is there a battery powered hose thingy I could replace it with?

Exploding? Can you still use it to drain the tank?
I think there is a battery operated gravel vacuum... I'm pretty sure I saw one at Petsmart.

We too use a python. We have to run it out a window and hook it up to the water hose. It dose a great job. It dose better now that we are in our new house because of all the water pressure we have. Using a bucket got old. I am so glad we got a python.

I can't use it to drain the tank either. Too much pressure on the poor sink. I hope the battery powered one isn't too expensive. I'm going broke.
