Hello People,

I need some input from you guys, We have two RES's they are about 9 to 10 months old. One of them got sick, the female. A few days ago she stopped being active and looked sick yesterday we noticed that she is unable to open her eyes.

What we have done so far is change her water twice a day, we put antibacterial ointment on her eyes also we got that white chalk looking stuff, and puy in the water. I believe its vitamin A also we ordered Turtle eye drops ands Water Purifier from the net it will arrive tomorrow.

Any more suggestions? what can we do? should we separate the two? Please people help me out over here. Thank you for your suggestions and help in advance.

I think the very next thing you should do is call and make an appointment to see a vet.

I don't think I'd keep using that oinment if I were you. The eyes look strange in the pic you posted. Bump the water temp to 80 or 82 and get him/her to a vet asap. That's really all you can do. Good luck

Ok, I just went and looked at your pics in the photo gallery. You're keeping your turtles in what we call a "Death Bowl". Please do some reading around the main forum about basic care and such. They need a large tank, uva and uvb lights, water heater, etc. This explains why your turt is sick. Still get him to the vet tho and provide them with a suitable habitat asap!

Until you get your turtle to a herp vet, rather than the antibacterial ointment, get some plain cod liver oil (you can buy capsules and open one), and apply a little of the oil to the eyelid with a q-tip once or twice a day. If your turtle has a Vit A deficiency, it should help.

You should also keep sick turtles separate from each other. There is no reason to order eye drops online when they are available at most pet stores.
