Re: Outdoor pond should I heat in winter

Don't heat the pond. If you heat the pond, the air temperature will still be cold enough to put her into shock or give her a RI. Either bring her inside or let her hibernate and don't bother her at all.

Sad news for me, good news for you.

Hello everyone, Long time no talk. I've been super busy with work and life so I haven't had the time to be active on this great community. For those of you who remember, I have 2 turtles. A 19 year old RES who lives in my (well my parent's now) pond. And in my apartment, I have my Full grown female ...

Re: Los Angeles Winter Pond Question

My RES has been living in our Los Angeles Pond for about 10 years now. She's fine during the winter, though the pond is 2.5 feet deep (which is important). If you do decide to keep her outside, DO NOT TOUCH HER OR DISTURB HER. Let her sit at the bottom of the pond. Also, be wary of raccoon. They're ...

Re: Cross breeding turtles

They cannot breed. Animals from the same Genus can create hybrids. Other than that, the chances are incredibly slim. Someone did accidentally breed a map and a red eared sldier together though: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/world_ ... index.html

Some Good News, and some Bad News

I've had my Belize Slider since early on in High School. I went to college nearby so keeping her in a large tank at home wasn't a problem. I've recently graduated, and it's time for me to move from the nest. I've found a place. They're actually okay with me having a 60 gallon aquarium, but space is ...

Re: Aggie - the Belize Slider

I have small hands! Only about 8". (That's a guess, I'll measure her next week when I put her in the pond again.)

Re: NEW TURTLE BEING AGGRESSIVE

No cure for aggression. you'll have to split them up into their own tanks.

Re: URGENT: 57 degrees and rainy here in Anaheim, Calif

I'm SUPER late to this but... Don't add warm water. Let the turtle be. It'll brumate (hopefully). Don't touch, or even disturb the turtle during this. If you used an aquarium heater, it would be bad for the turtle. Coming out of warm water and getting a big breath of cold air could give the turtle a...

Re: cost of outdoor habitat

It wasn't too much to build our pond. I think we got our 125G liner and pump for $100. Found a deal on Craigslist. You'll spend more time than money setting it up.

Re: Painted Turtle

Not a painted turtle. Most likely a Northern Red-belly Turtle: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/world_of_turtles/Northern_Red-belly_Turtles_-_Pseudemys_rubriventris/index.html or a florida redbellied cooter: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/world_of_turtles/Florida_Red-belly_Turtles_-_Pseudemys_nels...

Re: Wintering in a metal trough?

Keep them in a heated house. If you're going to heat the water, the air has to be warm too, or vice versa. Either they go into hibernation or they don't. You don't want the grey area in between.

Re: Wintering in a metal trough?

Make sure to keep the air warm too, or you'll get a respitory infection.
