I've used this company in the past, and had good luck, soI will use them again in the near future for new bulbs.

What kind (compact flourescent or tube)? If a tube, what size? I just bought an 18-inch Reptisun 5.0 tube for $16.99 from big al's (plus free shipping with a $60 or more purchase).

I've bought one thing, a fixture, from Big Apple Herp. I don't find their prices to be that competitive overall (although there are bound to be some slightly cheaper prices on particular goods if one looks).

I've switched to "mega-ray" bulbs. There are the best of the best. They cost $50 each, but they've been tested to have the highest output of UVB than any other bulb, and they emit UVB for 3 years. Much more than the 6 months you get from a fluorescent or tube.

Mega-Rays are nice (I've used them) but using one of these bulbs is dependent on the size of the enclosure. I have two tiny hatchling painteds that came out of a nest on the lawn at the end of Sept. and will be overwintering with me. Do you really think I'm going to use a Mega-Ray (or any MVB for that matter) on a 20-gallon tank?

As for their longevity, if you've used one that has lasted 3 years, I'd say that's pretty incredible. I always considered myself lucky if I got a year out of them. Some have lasted much less.

You could use them on any tank. You have to adjust the distance. I use a 100 w self ballasted one on my hatchlings at about 16" away from the basking area.
I haven't used them for that long, but they do come with a 1 year warranty.

Unless it's changed, the "waranty" is more like 6 mos. prorated. And if one fails, I do believe that along with paying to send it back, you're supposed to pay to have a replacement shipped to you.

I wouldn't use them on any tank, especially smaller tanks, because of the heat that's generated. And I would use them at the distance that's recommended (I know there's a little wiggle room with them).
