I think petsmart only price matches stuff from their own website. You might try going to a family owned pet store and see if they'll order it for you. When we got ours we told the owner that they were on sale at bigalsonline.com for like $90 and he looked it up and price matched it for me. He had it delivered to the store for me to pick up.

Wow, great price. I wish I could get it at that price here, or even at a store in Buffalo, since we are going there in a couple of weeks (I can avoid customs duty, brokerage, and taxes if I bring it across the border with me).

Otherwise, isn't their listing a little misleading by saying it is "self-priming"? I though the XP3 required a funnel to prime? I've actually seen a few web sites list the XP3 as "self-priming", just a bit misleading, eh?

Nah, my local Petsmart price-matched my xp2 last year for $73 from bigals. I know they still do online price matching but will they do it for this site? I mean...it doesn't look too professional. Bigal's site looks legit, but this? I dunno, just wondering....

I don't know about other brands, but for this it is technically "self-priming" because you don't have to fill the filter itself up. you just fill up the hose (which just takes like a cup of water), then open the valve and the filter starts to fill itself up.

Petsmart will price match. I just got one of their sale flyers and it said with a little asterisk that they will price match any other online price whether it be some random website, or their own.

The XP's do require a funnel to prime as far as I am concerned. I have always left the valve closing off the tubes open, and filled the whole canister with water via funnel. i bought a large funnel to make it easier.

next time I try and prime my filter, I will try what Ray is saying, and leave the hose valve closed and then open it once I start it up.

If you ask me though, that is misleading, because you do still have to fill up the tubes and that can be considered as priming. in order for it to be called a true "self priming" filter, the impeller and motor would need to be on the bottom of the canister like the FX5. So that you can just leave a bit of water in the bottom of the canister before setting everything up, and then just plug it in and it draws the water into the filter.

For the Rena series, it's basically self-priming. The first time, you leave the valves closed and fill up the one tube using the funnel. It doesn't take much water, and make sure all of the bubbles are out. Then you open the valve and as long as the intake is under water, it will suck the water in and bubbles come out of the output. You are supposed to give it 2 minutes, but it usually fills in like 30 seconds.

Then when you clean the filter out, you close the valve, trapping the water in the intake and output tubes. The whole canister goes to get cleaned, leaving the trapped water sitting there. Then you attach the valve part, open it up, and the whole thing fills again, no funnel needed. We've only had to prime the tank the first time 6 months ago ...

I am not sure if pet smart will match, but I know that my petco manager has told me he will match other deals/prices.

Give them a call could never hurt.

Did you go yet? It's been a few weeks, and I want to know before I go down to buy my filter when I get paid.

That gave me an idea...I'm going to start looking for other websites with the filter I'm getting later on and see if I can find a cheaper price then $26.99 and get Petsmart to price match.

Sorry Jimmy, not yet. I was planning to a while ago, but something came up and I couldn't. Now as soon as I am just about to finish my new setup, I'm going to get it. Hopefully I'll be done within the next week or so. :-/

Haha I plan on finishing mine soon aswell, race to who gets there final setup pic up first?

I just called my local Petsmart to see about the whole "price-matching" issue, and they totally shut me down. The lady said they only price-matched there competitors like Petco, or Petfood Express; And that they didn't price match other websites so there goes my sinister plan.

P.S. I still would like someone to chime in on if they've used that kensfishsupplies website yet.

haha, your on!

Woah that sucks. Maybe it's store dependent? Because last year I price matched my XP2 from bigals online form my local petsmart, but that site looks legit. problem is, kensfish really doesn't...but I'm going to try anyways! if not, i'll bring a printout of aquariumguys.com price for the xp3 instead  hopefully that will work if kensfish fails. I don't want to pay $190 for this!!! although, petco has it online for $144... but still! I could really use the discount.

I'll let you guys know asap (hopefully, haha).
