pyramiding is real common in captive RES... carol, your turts look fine to me (from te pics i've seen). i can only guess when it will begin to fade, but it is definitely less noticeable as they grow. with most of the fully grown RES i've seen, i don't see it at all.

but those shells should be pretty smooth in appearance overall.

usually its overfeeding that leads to rapid growth. i would say too much protein.
