Brooks is actually female (like how I named her) it could be either :) There is actually a story behind her name.....I was in Florida visiting and mentioned to a friend that I always wanted a turtle. Well, this guy from Honduras overheard me and one day brought me over this cute little turtle that was about the size of a 50 cent piece. With much thought and little knowledge I decided to take her home. Well, the guy from Honduras that found her said that his nickname was "Brooks". I thought that it would be a nice name for an either gender turtle :D

She's about 7 inches long, weighs 3.5 pounds, and is roughly 4 years old.

LOL, I just saw that you posted in my "Sheba's black belly" thread. We have a lot of cross-communication going on! LOL.

Wow, Brooks isn't all that small either. They say a female RES can grow to be 12 inches long. I think Brooks will eventually be bigger than Sheba based on the fact that she is already 7 inches long! :)

I got Sheba when she was 6 inches long so I have never seen her as a baby. I sometimes wonder what she looked like as a hatchling & if her plastron was solid black when she was a baby too.

Lol, I did, I do a lot of surfing to read up about other turtles and their experiences. Yeah, I think that Brooks is going to be pretty big too! She is a pretty big girl. It seems like she got big so fast I can barely remember when she was a little hatchling. I recently bought her a 125 gallon home b/c I couldn't stand her being in my 55 gallon tank with no room to swim. I always just wanted to know if everyone else's turtles were as humungous a mine

Yeah, I upgraded Sheba's tank last year to the 90 gallon monstrosity in my living room, complete with a new filter, MVB light, and new basking dock. She loves it in here. My friends teasingly call it the "turtle condo".

Previous to that, I also had a 55 gallon tank so I know what you mean. My dad had built a basking dock "on top of" the tank, with ramp into the water so she at least had the full 55gallons of water in there. Regardless, it was still to small. The 90 I have now is great & makes her look small. :)

That's exactly how I feel about Brooks! My fiance made my basking area out of PVP pipe and plexiglass on the top with a rainguard and the plexiglass as a ramp. It was a really neat idea where I can take the whole thing apart to clean. I'll take some more pictures so you can see my tank, do you have any pictures of yours that I can see without the dredded red X

Brooks used to reside in her 55 gallon tank in the basement which was really nice in the summer b/c I never had a problem with algae it was always 70 degrees down there but I really think that Brooks has always been a pretty brave girl and likes the company. Her 125 gallon is now in my living room also and makes her look little too:lol: And it doesn't matter how many people are over and look at her she always just stays on her basking area and sticks out her neck as if to wonder who's out there and what's going on. I think that b/c I've had her since she was a hatchling and she's always been around people that she's just not scared.

I don't think I have any more pics of the dreaded 55 gal tank....I'll have to look. If I do, I'll post some here! I have posted pics of the 90 gal "turtle condo" in the photos section here, but I will have to dig up the posts.

125 gal tank.....awesome! I know Brooks really enjoys it!!!! :)
