I decided to move my tank because the floor was finally deciding to deviate after 2 years of intense load on only two beams. The tank has been moved to a perpendicular area into a more permanent location. The weight of the tank is now over 4 beams, directly over a load-bearing wall.

Since I had to empty the tank, I figured this to be perfect time to add a background and a sand substrate for aesthetics and the happiness of my turtle. Sand was simple home depot sand which I washed following the procedure on this forum.

My turtle is happy and healthy. She is finally getting around to shedding.

I took in another turtle yesterday, a Mississippi Map turtle, for a friend who will be away for about 6 months. The turtle is about 10 years old and his shell is much improved since I gave my friend a PowerSun UV bulb. This turtle had NO UV for the first 9 years of its life, and also had no filter, and a faulty heater. It's a miracle that this turtle has made it so far, and it is still making strides towards looking and behaving regularly.

I'll have better pictures for you later, this is just a quick update. Thanks for looking. See ya!

Good job on the rescue, he looks pretty good! I like the sand too, I can't wait to try it.

From the first pic it looks like something is lurking in the depths of his turtle tank.

thats an actual background. solid color blue. the opposite side was black, i figured blue would look at least slightly better. there arn't too many background choices out there for a 24 inch tall tank.

Yea, it looks like there's something with yellow eyes and a long nose right under the basking area. Man, I should stay away from the forum past midnight

Just to comment on the background. Black backgrounds actually do look very nice, they make the colors in the tank pop pretty well against it.

And ya I can see what steve is talking about with the suction cups. Looks like there is a jaguar or something in there lol.

Jaguar? I see like a troll or something there. Didn't even realize those were suction cups.
