We found this lovely girl in the middle of the road today on our way home. We took her to the nearest lake approximately 1/4 a mile away. I wonder why she would travel so far from the water? It's hard to imagine my little guy (or girl, not sure yet) getting that big.

Wow, that is pretty far away. Maybe looking for a place to lay eggs.

Haha.. I wonder if people thing we are crazy when we run out in traffic to save turtles. I do it all the time! Maybe there was a creek near by? She will like that lake better than the creek! That was nice of her to stick her head out for a picture :)

I always try to save turtles now when I see them in the road. It took only one time of passing one by and on my way back it was ran over..seriously ridiculous that a turtle can be hit by a car. But I told myself that from now on I will stop traffic.

How self-less :D . Thats nice to see, and not to mention you drove out of your way to re-locate it. . We have DiamondBacks here that either get run over or damaged on their way to a better location and no one really tries to save them. :( I myself haven't come across one, but if I did, I think I would help it :)

We have quite a few turtles around here. A lot of snappers. And we have a lot of backroads (West Virginia). I don't know why but quite a few peoples around here stop traffic to help turtles across the street even several of my friends who dont have any pets at all. I have never seen one run over thankfully :). We hit mostly dear and possums around here :(

Nice rescue! I always rescue turtles from the road. I always feel so good about it when I put them to safety in the direction they were headed. I find myself always looking at objects on the road when I'm driving, just in case its a turtle crossing the road. Love the picture! :)

Thats so funny you say that because I do the same thing. I see something in the road I slow to almost a complete stop till I figure out what it is, then I keep driving. If its a turtle the people behind me will just have to suffer a few minutes delay while I get the poor thing out of harms way. :)
