I have convicts also.. my adult female just died recently.. :( But I have others. Mine never seem to hide from me unless they were hatching eggs.. which she did quite often by the way...

Your picture is really dark so I can't even see her :(

jn, it's not a clip of a turtle, lol. It's a fish. Anyway, I agree, this one is too dark to see. Are these the fish that are blind that you have to have the tubes for?

Do you mean convicts in general or specifically his.. in general they are not blind. The coloring changes on them depending on their breeding status ... the female I had was gorgeous.. she'd have these irridecent blue scales and a red belly when she was "in the mood".. They are the best fish I've ever had, take very little special care unlike other livebears. No special water conditions like PH.. etc. and tolerate fluctuations very very well. Of course you can't have chlorine in the water but others ways.. GREAT fish .. and their personalities.. they will eat from my fingers if I let them. I've often said they are as bad as my turtles.. I walk in the room, they see me and come to the glass for food.. haha.

Nope, they weren't what I was thinking of. There are fish at a petstore near me that have long clear tubes in them. It was explained to me that the tube was there because they were blind and it was their safety net. I'll have to go back and check to see what kind they were.

Much better pictures. Yeah I know all about that beating up on the female thing.. but then mine gave back almost as good as she got.. She was only shy when she was hatching babies. Then she stayed in her cave and barely came out for food.. otherwise she was begging at the glass like the others. I'm really going to miss her.. :( I'm not sure what to do about that .. I have 5 babies and I'm not sure if I can put the large male in with them even if they are over an inch ... sigh.

hahaha that is hilarious about the catfish. My son put his fingers in the tank with the bigger convicts to move something or see something and they nibbled at his fingers. They were actually attacking him because there were babies in there but he thought it was funny. The things that amuse some people .. :)
