Sorry for misspelling your name, my contacts make my sight blurry sometimes.

I still sense that you believe I have not taken adequate care of my pet and that is fine. You are welcomed to believe that, only I know what I do and that's that.

Not all turtles are born with perfect shells, heck not even humans are born perfectly. I don't even know who her mom was, or what conditions she was living in. We all know an animals health as well as in humans depend on their moms. Plus in a China town turtles case, I seriously doubt the handlers were very careful. I'm just saying I take perfect care of my turtle and she is not deformed in any way, thats a harsh word.

I appreciate the advice I've received here thus far, I am also an animal lover and very often donate to animal causes, I've even been near arrest at a Peta rally. Besides Ugui I have a cat named Heccubus, and a bird named Payito. But I am also compasionate and respect people who do right by their pets and in my humble opinion you seem to be quite judgmental. You must first look at the whole picture before jumping to conclusions. I've already explained the careless situation my turtle was in when I found her but still you chose to blame me.

Should I have left her to die? would that have been better in your eyes? I seriously doubt half the people on this forum would go through what I went through to get my turtle legal status in Spain, what I had to pay both governments to let me travel with her seeing as her species is banned in Spain and is considered as they said the "parasite" of turtles. Not to mention how much I've spent getting her proper equipment from UK. WOW I guess that makes me a terrible caretaker.

I thought it would be great to join this community, but I am seriously shocked at your reaction. Don't wanna pick a fight specially not with a moderator, but a forum by definition is a place of open and free discussion. I will understand if you would prefer to squash it, ban me or speak in private.

What ever you decide is fine.

Heh! Doesn't that defeat the perpose of contacts?! :P

I know it's none of my buisness, but this whole squabble, I believe, is just a little misunderstanding. Jenaero was just concerned for your turtle, he didn't blame anyone. He did apologize, and I hope that's enough to encourage you to remain visiting this forum.

Anyway, I'm out. G'day everyone!

We are all here to provide support/advice about caring for our turts. You are to be commended for your efforts thus far. You're right, not many people would go to such lengths for what most consider a 'disposable pet'. I don't recall blaming anyone but that's not the point here.

You're right. This forum is a place for free discussion. Our opinions may differ, but we are both free to express them.

I know sometimes my strong opinion gets misinterpreted as bashing, blaming, or what have you but it's hard to tell attitude in typing. Don't leave on account of me. Stay. Learn. Share your experience and knowledge with others, but be prepared for the opinions of others.

Have a good one.

The problem is, he isn't well. I don't mean to continue on this negative tyrade, but maybe if you can show him some of these posts he will think twice about his decission not to do anything.

Oh, and since you haven't caught on yet, Jen happens to not be a 'he', lol.

Hi Yayita, I'm sorry there were some negative comments but I think you can agree that your boyfriend's RES is not in an appropriate situation. Many of us made mistakes regarding our turtles but many us have come a long way to correct them. Although not everyone can afford the time or money required for proper care, we do try or we wouldn't be responsible pet owners. For that reason I think the people here do get upset if they think that a RES is being neglected. Since your boyfriend has decided not to improve these conditions, you can expect the people here to have very strong opinions about that. Their opinions are based directly on his care.

I am also delighted that your turtle is healthy and has a loving and responsible owner. From your other posts I understand that you are doing far more than what most owners do. And you are right - the health of some turtles is not necessarily a reflection of their owner's efforts. How much we do for them shows how much we care for them and I appreciate all you've done for your RES.
