by rocks you mean, bigger rocks? by more basking spots you mean more places for him to come out or atleast part of the way out of the water and rest? I can do more fake plants eventually but live plants meet their doom in like 2 hours worth of time with Leo so to me it's not worth spending the money on. And there are feeder fish in there, but only 3 and they like to hide... I think they realized what was happening to the others and don't risk coming out too much! haha I hope to give him a playground in there one of these days! ;)

I recommend it! Do you still have a hatchling? I mean, I'm sure all turtles no matter how big love it- but I find him hiding in those more then anything, that's where he sleeps as well! :P

That's awesome! I was just glad to get this 75 gallon for a good deal- I wish there had been a stand included! But I really wanted Leo to have more room to swim around, relax and play- he deserves it! I think we're going to get Brandon's dad to build us a stand once we're back in VA and settled- any one ever made a stand out of wood before and have tips on how to make sure it's stable and secure? I would hate to have that break on us!

I made this stand for my 75 gal. It was a day long project, but because we had all the wood, it only cost $8 for a new sander belt and some wood glue.
I didn't follow the pattern exactly, and we did 4x4s for the middle legs instead of 2x4s, and a few other things that made it stronger (this baby won't collapse if an elephat sat on it!).
There's some pics here.

If you're kind of a handy person (or you have available to you a handy person ;)) it makes for a fun project... And you can make it look however you like. I might at one point cover it up with 1/4" oak or something that looks nice, and add some doors on the front to hide all the junk :P

yeah, put some river rocks in the bottom. Get a few live plants for them to snack on. id also recomend a spot for them to relax whlie in the water and out. i can get you a pic of my tank if you want some ideas.

I already have some river rocks on the bottom but I have been debating to get him some bigger ones to rest on under the water because he loves to sit on his flower pot! But I have been thinking of cheap ways to get him a dock so he can relax partially submerged and partially out of the water! any ideas? money is a huge issue right now because all of my funds at the moment are going into my poor cat- already at $1,000 with him! :(

I give him a supply of Romaine every day as his greens but like I said fake plants to me are a waste of money cus they only look nice for about 2 hours! haha but I do plan on getting more fake plants for the bottom as soon as money isn't such an issue!

You can also search for "DIY+Reef"... those people are crazy about making their own tanks/stands. I think the setup looks good :)
