No need to apologize. What you stated was correct and important for any newbie to know. You should never start your turtle off with too high a basking temp unless you are sure that is the temp they are comfortable with. Mine was an accident at finding what the right temp was for Tanner. I hadn't meant to put the light closer to the basking area - I'm lucky it turned out okay.
I'm glad you pointed that out because then I could explain that the turtle determines what is the right temp for him/her. Temps that are too high for your turtle can be dangerous. If your girls are content with the basking temp you have, don't change it. If they are stretching out, it's the right temp for them.
