next to a pond, lake, stream, river. Near the ocean on the beach in the woods. Anywhere you can find smaller rocks your in business. I got mine from a pond, and was going to get more from the beach. I would just boil them first.

Very nice looking turt. You can get polished river rocks at some craft stores (get the ones that say aquarium safe), Walmart, dollar stores, etc. You don't need to cover the whole bottom with them.
